Dal Fry Recipe is a popular Indian lentil that is made using pigeon pea lentils, onions, tomatoes and indian spices. This recipe is usually prepared using arhar dal or toovar or pigeon pea lentils. channa dal, masoor dal or moong dal may be used to make this recipe.
This recipe is best served with plain regular rice or roti. On certain occasions Dal Fry is also served with plain basmati rice, ghee rice, jeera rice, Indian flatbreads like chapati, naan, kulcha, plain paratha, methi paratha, palak paratha. On the sides, Dal Fri can be served with pickle, papad, vegetable salad, fried chips.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup Channa Dal/ Moong Dal
3 qts Medium Onions Finely Chopped
1 tbsp Ginger Garlic Paste
1 qt Green Chilli
1 tbsp Oil
1 qt Large Tomato Finely Chopped
¾ tsp Garam Masala
1 tsp Coriander Powder
1 tsp Ready Mix Gravy Powder( Optional)
¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
¼ tsp Red Chilli Powder Or To Taste
1 tbsp Jeera
1 qt Tej Patta
4 qts Laung / Clove
1 qt Dalchini / Cinnamon
2 qts Elaichi
2 tbsp Curd
1 tsp Kasuri Methi
Salt To Taste
1 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves For Garnishing
METHOD
1Pick, clean and wash the dal and cook with the water, salt, turmeric
2Heat oil in a pan add jeera and ginger garlic paste
3Add the chopped onions and Cook the onion for 2 to 3 minutes until soft and golden brown.
4Add haldi, chilli pwd, dhaniya pwd, salt, gravy mix pwd and garam masala n cook for 2 to 3 mins.
5Add tomatoes and cook till oil separates.
6Cool masala and put in mixer and grind till smooth paste
7Heat oil in kadai add tej patta, laung, Dalchini, Elaichi and cook for a minute.
8Add dal water and kasuri methi and cover the lid and cook for 5 mins. Stir in between.
9Serve Dal fry hot with naan or roti or rice.
