“What kind of Leadership” would be required to manage the current and future crisis post Covid 19. Based on my experience of more than three decades, I have tried to collate my thoughts and perhaps would have acted in the fashion that I am putting across.
Covid 19 crisis is a defining moment for ourselves as well as our organizations. We need to step up and lead accordingly.
Educate Yourself: Things are changing on a daily basis or even on an hourly basis. We need to continously upgrade ourselves and provide the real information to the people below. The melodrama of media should be avoided as they are selling fear psychosis. Well they have an agenda of TRP but we need to be extremly careful.
Be flexible, Be adaptive and be willing to make difficult choices. As a leader you should be knowing what’s the most important Anchor. Safety of everyone is the main anchor, both Physically & Pyschologically. The underline message is to make People Feel Safe.
Build a Clear Plan: We should still think Global but act Local. Define tactical set of steps for New way of Working. Break it down to A,B,C, D etc
Be Sure to leverage your Teams: We should bring team together to ensure alignment on Plans, Priorities and Contingencies. You need to continuously engage them. Engagement could be further strengthened by engaging the families.
Over-Invest in Communication to build your own credibility and optimism. You need to be visible.
Create Connections to develop Rapport with all your stakeholders.
Remember to be Authentic as people can read very well. A genuine approach would leave an everlasting impressions.
Last but not the least “ Manage Yourself “
The crisis needs to be changed into an Opportunity.
