Why Is It Important to Close the FASTag Account While Selling a Car?

Because of all the sensitive information that is linked with the tag, it is important to ensure that it is effectively deactivated once the car has a new owner.
Physically removing and damaging the FASTag is not enough because the details of the specific car have been linked to an active FASTag. The new owner or the buyer will be unable to get a new FASTag issued for the car you have just sold.
If the FASTag is not deactivated, the previous owner of the vehicle will continue to have toll fees deducted from the associated e-wallet or bank account every time the vehicle, driven by the new owner, passes through a toll gate or plaza. Any traffic violations made by the new owner may be billed to the previous owner.
