Green Mumbai! Recycle your grey water

water saving

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation( BMC) is planning to make an eco-friendly move by enforcing a new rule. This rule will make it mandatory for inventors to have slate water recycling shops in all new constructions that have further than 60 units( i.e. 240 residers). still, 000 square meters and don’t have the installation, their work completion instrument won’t be issued by the BMC

Grey water is generated from domestic processes similar to bathing, washing dishes, and doing the laundry. roughly five to seven liters of water is used each time a person flushes. Grey water forms 50 to 80 percent of wastewater from domestic demesne. As per the sources, if slate water is treated by casing societies, the water deficit will be answered, which will in turn reduce the water bill. The recycled water can be used for flushing, gardening purposes and etc.

Anil Diggikar, the fresh external manager said that “ Once the draft is ready, we will invite suggestions and expostulations from citizens, and in a couple of months, we will make it obligatory to install slate water treatment shops This rule will also be applicable to being societies, but the society should have further than 240 residers. The expenditure will have to be borne by the casing society itself, ” he said.

“During times of crisis, the BMC may announce some incentives and tax benefits under this scheme. Presently, there are some societies that are practicing greywater recycling, including the Hiranandani society in Powai. The effective use of grey water will also help reduce the load on municipal infrastructure, including water supply, wastewater treatment, and solid waste management,” said a civic officer on condition of anonymity.
